On June 2nd, 2017, we honored and celebrated the legacy of Step Up Women’s Network at the 14th Annual Step Up Inspiration Awards, held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel. Step Up is a non-profit organization created to empower young women in inner city areas not to let where they come from define who they will become. The organization supports female empowerment, and propels young women to college and beyond. Step Up Teen Honoree Kimberly is a living testimony of Step Up’s impact, who shared, “Because of Step Up I’ve had the opportunity to learn how to speak confidently about myself. Because of Step Up I am able to speak in front of you all.”
The crowd was further moved by Tracee Ellis Ross of Black-ish’s words of wisdom, “We are honored to work on a show that is a part of reshaping the perception of how we see women in the context of humanity and in the family… Our worth is not defined by being in relationship to something else. We are valuable, powerful and entertaining because we are.”
At the Inspiration Awards, Step Up successfully raised $425,000 to support their mission of empowering young women. Notable sponsors who helped bring the Inspiration Awards to life included the Coach Foundation, Platinum Sponsors American Airlines and Dermstore, and Gold Sponsors SIX:02, ABC, and US Bank. Our Principal and Founder Lindy Huang Werges was honored to attend this inspiring event, and to watch the impact grow as the years go on. Step Up’s legacy is continuing to shape lives, and we see that all it takes is an opportunity.
