Fulfillment Fund Career Expo 2018

Welcome

For forty years, the Fulfillment Fund has dedicated its service in making college education a reality for students in under-resourced communities.  The organization prides itself in serving students through high school, onto college and into their professional careers. This year, Fulfillment Fund extended its services to college students through the Career Accelerator Program. The program aims to guide college students in the transition to their professional careers.

The Fulfillment Fund Career Expo was the last program event of the academic year and was held on April 7, 2018 at Mount Saint Mary’s University (MSMU) in Downtown Los Angeles. The event consisted of a Panel in considering all possibilities and a Career Fair. The fair included companies ranging from Lionsgate in the entertainment industry, UCLA Health for the public health sector, to Google for the tech industry.  The day also included professional head-shots for the students’ LinkedIn profiles.

The Panel

The Expo opened with a team of panelists, who similarly to Fulfillment Fund students grew up in under resourced communities and are now well into their professional careers.  The team of panelists included; Kimberly Kenny(Associate Vice President at MSMU) as moderator, Robert Mason (Senior Vice President of Legal Affairs at Lionsgate  Entertainment), Koko Archibong, Senior Client Relationship Associate for Capital Group Private Client Services; Andrea Ospina, Vice President of News at Estrella TV; and Gemma Jimenez a Government Analyst for the CalPER system.  Students were given the opportunity to ask the panelists questions regarding their education, career paths, as well as possible roadblocks they may have faced and their success stories.  The success stories of each of the panelists inspired student attendees on the infinite amount of possibilities to success through perseverance, confidence and determination.

Career Fair

After an inspiring open to the Career Expo, students were then provided the opportunity to put their networking skills to practice at the Expo’s very own career fair.  Attendees of the career fair included companies such as; Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Lionsgate, Google, and Capital Group.  Students were able to connect with employers of each company, share their resumes, and potentially connect via LinkedIn.  The Fulfillment Fund ensured all students were equipped and ready to network with employers. The goal was for students to gain access to internship opportunities, full-time career opportunities and begin building invaluable professional relationships.

Event Close- Raffle and LinkedIn Photos

In addition to the networking opportunity, the Expo provided students the chance to take professional head-shots for their LinkedIn accounts. Finally, as the Expo was coming to an end, Fulfillment Fund rewarded students who diligently networked with attending companies through a raffle.  Students were given a chance to win items such as gift cards, a Kindle, Apple Watch and more!

Special thanks to MSMU for hosting this incredible event and to all the participating corporations for making this such an incredible and invaluable experience for our students!
